Zoe had been ill for a while but the doctor thought it was a viral infection.  Her mum, Leah, said: “One day she came home yellow - so we went for more blood tests. When they said ‘it’s cancer’, my legs almost gave way“.

With the family still reeling from shock, Zoe started treatment. She went to one hospital for chemotherapy, another for related treatment and to her local hospital for check ups. With four other children in the family, including baby twins, it was an enormous strain.

How did CLIC Sargent help?

From the start CLIC Sargent was there. The biggest help was CLIC Sargent Nurse, Lynn. Nurses like Lynn care for children on the ward and, when children leave hospital, this specialist care continues at home.

As some of Zoe’s treatment could be given at home, it saved regular, disruptive trips back to hospital. Being at home, going back to school…  help a child to feel normal again and cope better with the challenges of cancer.

Nurses are only one way CLIC Sargent helps children and their families. The Charity is there, providing clinical, practical, emotional and financial support every step of the way… right across the UK.

Today another ten families will hear that their child has cancer. But right now CLIC Sargent can only help two out of three of them. Please support us… so we can be there for each and every one.
